Sunburst Watercolours

A good friend of mine is having her birthday this Sunday and she has been such a supporter to my card making, by ordering so many cards from me, that I wanted to make an especially nice card for her. As the sun has come out for the last two days too (its since gone away and it was pouring down with rain when I made this…) I wanted something bright and sunny too.

The technique I wanted to use today is called “ghosting”. I heard about it over at Happy Little Stampers, I love how they add links to tutorials whenever they propose a technical challenge, and I just had to try it. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember exactly how it was done after I put on the inks and so I just went with it. So is my technique still called ghosting, you be the judge of that!

I masked my card with a heart before spraying water on it. I added lemon, orange and yellow brushos powder onto the card and spritzed water again. After waiting for it to dry a little, I stamped the flowers from Stampers Anonymous Flower garden set in white ink. I inked up a paper with orange and brown metal effect paints and cut the butterflies from Sizzix. The sentiments come from The Ton. I then smudged some yellow onto the white heart so it would blend in a little more.

I do hope she’ll like it!

I’m entering this card in the following challenges:

  6. Hello Gwendolyn! After receiving your sweet comment about my rather ‘vibrant’ roses card, I had to come over to say thank you (thank you!), and WOW! I’ve just spent the last 20 minutes wandering around your blog, completely enraptured with your creativity – be that cards or crochet – and enthusiasm for your ‘new life’ away from the corporate world (and what a career you had: aeronautical industry. Impressive!!). Your photo on your ‘About’ page conveys your energy – and your family’s – marvelously! Your drive and passion for all you do is abundantly apparent! Now, your card here (and all the others before, I might add), is stellar! Ghosting gorgeous from my perspective…a perfect canvas for your lovely butterfly to land. Adding you to my Feedly; your inviting blog is a place I intend to return to, whenever opportunity arises!
