Give Thanks

This year, a good friend of ours has invited us to their Thanksgiving dinner, and we feel very privileged to be allowed to share this important celebration with them. Not being American, I looked up the history of Thanksgiving. I always thought Thanksgiving was a celebration of immigration success (the first immigrants giving thanks to the good life they found in the States) but it was actually a celebration of harvest practised in England and brought over by the English immigrants and now adopted by everyone in the US, regardless of where they originally came from. Our friends here are Hispanic born Americans, and even though they have been living in Germany for the last few years, they still continue to celebrate this tradition, inviting close friends to dinner, to replace their families who are so far away.

This year especially, with everything going on in the world, I think it is important to give thanks for what we have, try and share what we have with those in need, and really be thankful that we do not have to go through what millions of refugees or families living in war ravaged countries are going through. I’ve met a few refugees here in Germany and their stories are so painful to hear. So lets all give thanks for what we have.

For this card I made for them, I used a digital image for the first time as I didn’t have any harvest stamps but it was impossible to print it out on a card stock, my printer just wouldn’t take the thickness of the card! So I just printed it on normal printing paper and coloured it in with my Zig brushes and fussy cut it. I coloured a glossy paper with my alcohol inks and cut it with Sizzix scallop die before pasting my coloured image onto it. I then cut another scallop circle and adhered the two scallops together on my green card. The Stamplorations die cut sentiment was cut from a green foam and the alcohol ink coloured paper and mounted together so it would stand out. I had an embossing puncher and punched a few leaves onto the card and my card was finished!

Hope they’ll like it and I hope you like it too!

  1. A very pretty card, I hope your hosts liked it. I’m glad you got to celebrate Thanksgiving. We usually do too (with friends who are American or have lived in America) but not this year since I just returned from the US. Hope you go to bring home some leftovers too 😉 Thanks for playing with us at the MMCC this month.
