I made a Book!

Before you get all excited, no I did not write a book, although I did want to be a writer when I was younger, but life got in the way and now I don’t have anymore original ideas or original ways to tell them. What I did do was to learn how to hand bound a book!

It was during a workshop with Spunkhaus at the Munich Creative Fair and I had signed up for a course in the art of Ebru marbling with the very talented Syumbike from Turkey as I am crazy about marbling at the moment! Here are afew pics from the workshop as I try to show you the process.

All the material we needed to start marbling. Special paint and special water which is almost viscous in texture.book-making-1

We gently added our paints

Stirred it to give it the form we wantedbook-making-3

Delicately added our 100% cotton sheetbook-making-4

And voila the result. The photos above don’t match as I forgot to get pics taken of my own work while I was working!book-making-5

This is another pattern I made, which I find amazing, as it matched my Native Indian necklace! I brought it back from Sante Fe, New Mexico, during our Route 66 road trip we made 2 summers ago. (That was an incredible journey that I hope to blog about one day…)

I did the hand bound book workshop as an afterthought as as we were using the coloured cloth we made to bind our books. Before this, I must admit I never even heard of hand bound books, but now I’m hooked!

We first glued our marbled cloth to a chipboard and started the process of sewing the paper in the book together! I’m not a sewer but it was actually quite easy and very relaxing.

These are all the other book covers we made

We even did marbling on wood!book-making-9

My finished book! I am now hooked on this art and I am recycling my scraps to make the paper for more books!

Oh while I was at the fair, I met a new friend I met on Bloggerland, Monika from Creative with Monika. It was such a treat to meet this amazing cardmaker, who also gave me tons of embossed cards, which I hope to use soon! Thanks again dear! 😘

Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by!
