After a week of intensive daily online drawing lessons, I decided it was time to try colouring those beautiful flower stamps I have… and I did it! I managed to colour a flower and make it RESEMBLE a flower! Woohoo! I am so happy and proud of myself. I now truly believe that anyone can draw and paint if they just put their minds to it. I still have a long way to go and still loads of lessons to learn, but I now have more confidence in my colouring skills.
To make this card, I first stamped the orchid from the beautiful Hero Arts Color layering Large Orchid stamp set on 170g sketching paper, using a soft lilac ink from Momento to give me the outline of the orchid. I then drew in the rest and coloured them with my new Prismacolor pencils. I tried to shade it in a way as to give different views of the same stamps, but I’m not at that level yet…! As I don’t get my blender pencils till Tuesday, I used the white colour pencil to burnish it to get a more uniform colour. ( A week ago I didn’t even know what “burnish” meant…). I cut the panel using MFT Blueprints 20 scallop rectangle and proceeded to splatter black ink over it.
To make the ink splatters, I first roughly masked the finished coloured orchids and mixed a slightly wet brush with black watercolour paint. I positioned my brush over the card and tapped it on the side of my paint tray. I should have changed positions when tapping though to avoid just streaks in one direction! I am explaining this process cause the first time I tried it, I just flicked a wet brush with distress inks on it, and all I had were awful wet smudges! Lol! (Oh and don’t forget to cover your work area when doing so, I forgot once and I now have red ink splatters on my wall! ) I then stamped the beautiful “Just Blossom” sentiment from Stamplorations, in black Versafine ink.
I cut a strip of paper with my fancy scissors and stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts on it. I adhered everything onto a Kraft card base, stamped a striped banner on the left from Winnie and Walter, threw in a few sequins, and the card was done!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you liked my card. For those who, like me, thought they were useless at using colour pencils, I hope I have encouraged you to try again. You can find in my previous post, the drawing lessons I am following, which helped me to achieve this. I am also following the Colored Pencil Drawing class by Mathew Fussell.
I am playing along with:
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – Layer it Up, I’m not sure how many layers of colours I have added to each orchid…but there are tons!
Addicted to Stamps – My 2nd entry to their Clean and Simple challenge
Winnie and Walter – Color combo challenge
The Card Concept – Rich texture. I hope my orchids have a rich enough texture on them! I never know how to define my styles but maybe this one is clean and graphic?
Seriously GORGEOUS coloring! That no line coloring is not easy at all, and you did fabulous! Thanks so much for joining the first Winnie and Walter Monthly Color Challenge!
