The Sisterhood of Crafters – August Harvest challenge

Its time for another challenge over at The Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge blog. We had such a great response for last fortnight’s challenge, and the winner has been announced here.  For today’s challenge, you can link up your cards with a Harvest Hoe-down theme, so anything with tractors, scarecrows, apples, cornstalks, sunflowers… until the 20th of August.

The Ton Sunflower sof blog

I decided to go for sunflowers as I just received these beautiful Fresh cut Sunflower outline stamps from The Ton. When I was making this card, I thought of the harvest that went on right in front of my house 2 weeks ago. I had just hung up some wet towels on our terrace and was sitting down to craft when I heard the roar of tractors. I looked up and saw a mini tornado of hay and insects coming my way! I ran to close all the windows but forgot my towels! Needless to say, I had to wash them all again. LoL!

So I was thinking of creating a mini tornado behind my peaceful sunflower, but I’m not that good a painter! LoL! As it is, I’m really quite proud of this watercolour piece I produced just with my Zig clean color real brushes and a water brush. Although I’m no Van Gogh, I wouldn’t have imagined I could do this 4 months ago!

The Ton Sunflower zigs

I started out by stamping the sunflowers with Tim Holtz’s Mustard seed distress ink and colouring it in petal by petal. I then created the sky and field just by putting down some strokes of ink without really thinking about it. Once my panel was finished, I cut a stitched rectangle using Sue Wilson’s stacked dies, adhered it with fun foam on a scallop panel I die cut with MFT Blueprint 20 die, I really have to get another type of rectangle die as I use this one to death! LoL!

The label was die cut using a die from the same MFT set. My hubby said it looked like a painting so I wanted the label to look like one you would find under a painting at an art gallery (wishful thinking!)

I made a video showing my painting process, to show that anyone can do this… and probably better! So if you’re a beginner at watercolour like me, I hope you’ll give it a try!

I apologise in advance for the poor quality of the voice over. I just started making videos 10 days ago so I’m still getting the hang of it. Please be patient with me!

So come on over and play along with us at The Sisterhood of Crafters challenge blog and leave some love to my fellow sister crafters there too. Thanks for stopping by and I really love reading your comments!
