Hi all. Its the 1st of the month so another challenge begins at Creative with Stamps and the theme this month is Mother as Mother’s Day in most parts of the world is on May 13th, except the UK where it was on the 11th of March. We have a generous sponsor MHK Designs who are giving away 3 products of your choice from their Etsy store so I hope to see many of your cards with the Mother theme in the link up!
I made my card using a Heart stencil from Stamplorations which I inked up with Spun Sugar distress oxide inks, and a stamp from Winnie and Walter called Big Hugs. I first stamped this cute image with Versafine black ink onto 300g watercolour paper and cut it with my Brother Scan and Cut. I then water coloured it, trying to give it a more “artsy” look! I really love the sentiment from Altenew Precious Moments set, which has very beautiful sentiments for parents and children. Unfortunately I stamped it crooked and unevenly…and I even used my Misti! I didn’t want to twice stamp it as I’m always afraid to smudge my sentiments… The ribbon was a scrap in my drawer so unfortunately I don’t really know where it comes from.
Do you know the origins of Mother’s Day? It started in the US in 1907 with the efforts of a devoted daughter, Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia. She did it to memorialise the work of her mother, Ann Jarvis, who started “Mother’s Work Days” to improve the sanitation and avert deaths from disease-bearing insects and seepage of polluted water. A few years later in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day, and within a few years, the idea gained worldwide prominence! Now isn’t that truly a labor of love from one mother to all mothers and the greatest show of love from a daughter for her mother! Well I hope this little history lesson inspires you to do something nice for your mothers on Mother’s Day and not just giving something nice… although I know if my kids remember the day at all I would be ecstatic! Lol!
Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll be inspired to join in our challenge at Creative with Stamps with your beautiful cards honouring your mothers. Do pop over to my team mates blog and leave them some love as they inspire you with their wonderful creations!

Gwen, this is beautiful. Your watercoloring is wonderful, and nice job with covering your sentiment blooper! What a lovely sentiment. You are a true enabler with this card as it made me go right to Altenew and buy Precious Moments. And another set. And a die. Oh boy! And I enjoyed the Mother’s Day origin. Who knew??
