Addicted to Stamps & More – Stamp Collage

addicted to stamps

Hi all, I’m back today with a new challenge at Addicted to Stamps & More and the theme is “Make Your Mark”. We look forward to seeing your creations using markers, watercolours, colour pencils… anything you use to make YOUR mark in the gallery.

As we are just past the middle of Kathy’s “The Daily Marker’s 30 Day challenge” (where she challenges us to colour something a little everyday) and this month Kathy has asked us to use a few of our stamps to create a framable piece,  I decided to do just that, and hopefully inspire you to do the same! I made a video to show you how I did it and you can find it at the end of the post.

I wanted a tropical theme so I used stamps from Altenew, Clearly Besotted, Create a Smile & WPlus9 and had fun stamping & masking and stamping and masking to create my panel. I first stamped them with light distress inks, except for one flower which I absentmindedly stamped in black but managed to camouflage it with my white gelli roll pen, whew! Below you see it before I managed to cover it & with the first wash of light colour. I made this first wash to decide if the colour combinations I had decided on would work well together. If not, I could still go in and change the colour scheme.

But I was happy with it & so I added more hues and detail to bring the panel to life. I used mainly Winsor and Newton watercolours on 300gm watercolour paper, which I taped down with painter’s masking tape to prevent it from warping. My panel measures 28cm x 13cm.

Here’s the video I promised. I added some water-colouring tips in it too so I hope you find it useful. Let me know in the comments what you though of it. All in all I’m quite proud of the overall result even though I know the individual flowers could have been better painted. My hubby says I should put a print of it on a t-shirt which he would proudly wear! He’s too nice.

  2. I’m with your husband, Gwendolyn. That would make a great shirt. You did a spectacular job of masking and stamping and the colors and stamps work together beautifully.
