Mermaid tunnel card

addicted to stamps n more anything goes

Hi all! I’m back today for a double post and the first is for Addicted to Stamps and More where the challenge is everyone’s favourite… “Anything Goes”! So I’m sure I’ll see many of you in the link up with your amazing cards.

The idea to make a tunnel card came from Jennifer McGuire’s post here. I couldn’t use her measurements for the card as I had already created the inside of the card with a painting using my new liquid watercolours by Royal Talens Ecoline, but the concept is the same. To see how I painted the background for the tunnel part of the card, you can watch a short video I made, which you can find at the end of my post.

These liquid watercolours are really vibrant and so easy to use and I’m still experimenting on how to use them like traditional watercolours. I used Nina Solar White for the main card base (front & back) but the inside coloured part of the card is 300gm watercolour paper by Guardi Artistico. You have to use watercolour paper if you want to try the same method as you will be putting down alot of water.

The mermaid & sentiment on the front of the card is from Craftin Desert Divas “Magical Wishes” set & the diecut leaves aperture is the “Flowing Vine Collage” die from Simon Says Stamp. The front of my card is actually made from the negative of this diecut and the strips are the excess I cut off from my water-coloured panel. Waste not want not.

I also coloured my little mermaid with Spectrum Noir Sparkle markers so that she would shine among all that heavily coloured background.

She was adhered onto the background only with a spot of glue drop so that she would be a little raised too.

As promised here is the video of how I painted the background of the card. You’ll see that its really easy and the colours of these inks are so vibrant! The addition of the sea salt gave those blooms you see on the water-coloured panels.

Well I hope you’ll pop over to the Addicted to Stamps and More challenge blog and see what my teammates have created just to inspire you and I hope you’ll leave them some love too! Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be back in afew hours to share a way of using your flower stamps that will make your cards stand out from the crowd!

Hugs, 0aablog-signature2-1

  2. Wow! the Ecoline inks are so vibrant and pretty Gwendolyn and love the tunnel card with that sweet little mermaid peeping through the underwater foliage, and the random colours on the die cut piece and the background make the perfect backdrop. I love too that you used the waste from the die as a focal image on the front of the card, and the little cut slivers of card make great pieces of weed, and a super sentiment too. I saw the video Jennifer McGuire made but I’m not sure that I could tackle this myself and get it to go together right, but you have made a great job of it. A fabulous card. x

    1. Thanks so much Pat. I’m sure you could do it too especially as her method was easier than what I did as I over complicated things by colouring the images first before I knew where they should go! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Hugs.

  3. Hi there Gewndoline, firstly I have to say I love the title of your blog, its made me chuckle, I guess many of us could claim that title, lol.
Now your card is fabulous, the mermaid image is gorgeous and wonderfully coloured.
The tunnel design is most certainly an aperture, love everything about it.
Thanks for joining the challenge at BBB and good luck, Kate x x
