AECP – Beautiful Details

I made it through the 1st level of the Altenew Educator Certification program and got this wonderful badge on the right to show for it too! Now just 2 more levels to go consisting of 15 classes, about 75 videos to watch and tons of new techniques to learn! I’m as excited to continue as when I first started as the classes have such wonderful tips, techniques and ideas an I feel that my card making has gone to a whole new level because of them.

Today’s card, especially, makes me feel like I have finally reached the level I’ve been aiming for since I started 2 years ago. (By the way, card making is the only hobby I’ve taken up that still passionates me today as the first day I started!) It embodies everything I have seen & loved in other card makers cards. Clean and Simple with beautiful details, and it was made after watching the Beautiful Details class by the amazing Marika Rathu. This class is truly inspiring and I could just sit and watch her colour all day… in fact I will definitely go back to this class often as she is an amazing colourist!

I incorporated a little of each technique from the 5 videos in the class. I started by stamping my images on velum using Altenew’s Wild Hibiscus set and light Momento ink colurs, then colouring the underside with fine strokes using my new Faber Castell PITT Artist pens for the first time. My daughter used them as hand lettering pens but kindly gave them to me. 🙂  I also coloured in the butterfly and leaf with my Spectrum Illustrator alcohol markers.

I used a circle stitched die from My Favorite Things and popped up the innner circle on foam adhesive, added 2 white card stock on the front of my blue card base, leaving a little strip to be seen, just like on one of her cards she made for the class. My vellums images were fussy cut and glued onto the card with Scrap Perfect Best Glue Ever. The little water drops are from my Goosebumps clear texture spray.

I really love all the sentiments from Altenew’s Beautiful Quotes set but I chose this one as we need to be reminded to never give up when we hit bumps on the road on our way to accomplishing our goals. Or do really bad colouring or paintings for the umpteenth time in the beginning when we are learning… Like Marika said, practise makes perfect and even if we don’t think we’re improving, we are! As proof, I took this course 1 year ago and I was so nervous about letting go and doodling on my stamps. Today, I’m still hesitant about letting go, but I have more confidence and with the courses from Altenew, I’m making the type of cards I really like!

Well thanks for stopping by and I love all the comments you take the time to leave me. Have a great day!
